I work with clients virtually across British Columbia and offer in-person sessions in Burnaby and Vancouver, BC.
01. What is Chronic Illness Therapy?
+
Chronic illness counselling offers a dedicated space for individuals dealing with long-term health conditions to process their experiences, build emotional resilience, and develop coping strategies. Chronic conditions often come with a significant emotional burden, including anxiety, depression, isolation, and grief over lost abilities or lifestyle changes. Therapy can provide much-needed support in managing both the mental and emotional effects of these illnesses.
With my specialization, I help clients address:
- Grief, loss, and identity changes due to illness.
- Strategies for coping with chronic pain, fatigue, and other symptoms.
- Navigating relationships with family, friends, and healthcare providers.
- Mental health support for feelings of isolation and frustration.
- Emotional resilience and reflection on the impact of ableism in managing illness.
- Developing mindfulness and acceptance strategies to live with the unpredictability of chronic conditions.

03. How Therapy Can Help You Manage Chronic Illness:
+
Chronic illness not only affects your body but also your mental health and quality of life. Therapy can help you build emotional resilience and equip you with tools to better manage your symptoms. Together, we’ll work on:
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT): Learning how to accept the presence of chronic illness in your life and commit to living in a way that aligns with your values.
- Mindfulness Practices: Managing symptoms of pain and fatigue through mindfulness and stress-reduction techniques.
- Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT): Processing and expressing difficult emotions like anger, sadness, or grief that can arise from living with a chronic condition.
- Ableism and Chronic Illness: Reflecting on how societal pressures and misunderstandings about chronic illness and disability can affect emotional well-being, and how to navigate those challenges.
In our sessions, we’ll work on practical skills to manage flare-ups, find balance between rest and activity, and cope with the emotional weight that often comes with chronic illness.
